Some neighbourhood volunteers are making a skating rink in a park next to my apartment.
Stumbled on these guys watering the Jean Sibelius Park rink last night. The City gives them a key which gets them access to a hose but it’s just volunteers standing in the cold each night building up the ice.
It’s just about ready to use apparently — just a few more layers of ice are needed. I guess this should help make me excited that this next week will be freezing. I can’t wait to bring my skates downtown.
Updated (via Lindsay on Facebook):
I think they do it every year. The park is being redesigned with the annual volunteer rink in mind.
